We went to Dublin Airport and enjoyed the VIP lounge. Roger believed it was only appropriate that we were sitting in these surroundings.
"Five star lounges for 5 star bears...", Roger pointed out.
McBear borrowed an iPad from one of his humans. Being a bear of liberty and independence, McBear was busy catching up with news about the Scottish referendum on independence.

We were flying Aer Lingus to San Francisco. It was a flight of more than 8100 kilometers. Our flight path went across the southern part of Greenland and we could see the massive ice sheet.

After nearly 10 hours flight we landed in San Francisco and had a few hours before we would depart and fly to Phoenix in Arizona.

Here we are in the nice United lounge in San Francisco before departure. McBear had brought his brand new GoPro camera. Roger wanted a selfie for his Facebook account, however, his paws didn't reach far, so all he got on the selfie was two nozzles on a nose. He asked McBear to help him with a fine selfie...

We would be flying United Express to Phoenix. McBear said it was a CRJ200.

We flew to Phoenix in Arizona and stayed one night at the Double Tree Suites by Hilton near the airport. McBear was more than eager to catch up with news from Scotland. He was disappointed to learn that the Scots had voted no to independence.

Moab, Utah, September 2014

Next morning we left Phoenix and drove nearly 500 miles. It took us all day to reach Moab in Utah (but that was after a shopping spree in Wallmart, a trafic bottleneck in Sedona and a coffee detour to Tuba City (McDonald's might never become famous for their coffee... phew!)

In Moab we stayed at the Hampton Inn. Roger believed that this was the most appropriate hotel to suit his class.

Tom of course was with us, and since Irving hadn't been out travelling for several years, he had been invited too.

Before the trip, McBear had done some studies and knew what he wanted to see. The Arches National Park was high on the list. The park is located in close proximity to Moab and it only takes 5 minutes to reach the park.

The Arches National Park has an emense amount of incredible rock formations and more than 2,000 arches. Some of the scenes from the film Thelma and Louise were shot in this park.

This rock formation is called Balanced Rock. The top stone is huge - 55 feet tall!

The Landscape Arch is impressive: it's 88 meters long (nearly 300 feet) and was the longest natural arch (or bridge) in the world (until they discovered an even longer arch somewhere in China). Big chuncks of rock has fallen since 1991, and the arch will collaps sooner or later unfortunately.

Before we left the park, we made sure to have a look at "The Windows" and "Turret Arch" as well. Here's the Turret Arch. It almost looks like a fairytale castle...

We went to visit the Canyonlands National Park. The views from the edge of Island in the Sky is absolutely stunning, and you can see canyons for miles and miles... Unfortunately, we were caught by a major thunder storm.

From Moab, we headed north to the Interstate 70 highway. We headed west until we reached Green River. Here, we refuelled and went for coffee. Just before we left, we did another selfie - and made new friends (the motorist behind us seemed to enjoy discovering two bears on their own...)

We also went to visit Goblin Valley on highway 24 between Green River and Hanksville. The rock formations in Goblin Valley are absolutely incredible, and walking among the goblins, you feel you're on a different planet...
